The best-selling truck in history is about to get even better. Arriving this fall, the legendary Ford F-150 is fully redesigned for the 2021 model year, and the updates are impressive. The industry's most iconic pickup launches its 14th generation with a refreshed style, a new hybrid powerplant, and a bevy of additions to the standard and available feature lists. Complete details are still pending, which is Ford's usual M.O., but there's plenty of public information for Livonia and Canton drivers to be excited about.
All-New PowerBoost® Full Hybrid Engine
For 2021, the Ford F-150 adds the revolutionary PowerBoost full-hybrid powerplant to its stable. It pairs a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 with a 35-kW electric motor and a 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery, and Ford says it's targeting class-leading ratings for horsepower and torque. Ford also claims an approximate combined range of 700 miles and states it will be capable of towing at least 12,000 pounds.
New Standard Features
Previous iterations of the F-150's base XL trim were barebones work trucks with a 4.2-inch display, some towing equipment, and a few available options. For the new generation, XL models come standard with an 8-inch touchscreen and Ford's upgraded SYNC® 4 infotainment system. The new system adds improvements like over-the-air updates, cloud connectivity, and wireless smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. By stepping up just one level to the XLT tier, Westland shoppers will get a larger 12.0-inch horizontal touchscreen and access to the available 12.0-inch digital instrument display.
An Office for the Road
The 2021 F-150 adds thoughtful details for productivity enhancement, like an available fold-down work surface for your laptop or lunch break. The tailgate features integrated clamp packets and tie-downs, and another work surface with a phone holder, cup holder, pencil holders, and rulers. And when you need a break, you can kick back in the available Max Recline Seats that tilt back nearly 180 degrees.
